An update – the good, the bad and the horrible…

I love Dr. pediatric neurosurgeon. Not only is he very bright, but he also has a child of his own with Down syndrome. A dear, three-year old cherub. Now, what are the chances of that happening? He told me that he found it odd that (being a neurosurgeon and all) he has a child with mental delay. I told him that these lovely children are only given to bright people, and the children are generally just as bright as their parents (really, as with any kiddo)! He agreed. LOL!

Needless to say, Elliot’s hydro is mild. His hydro is non-obstructive. His hydro is only a mere variant of Dandy-walker. Elliot does not have Dandy-walker. He has mild venous hypertension, and unless he becomes symptomatic (vomiting, convulsing, etc.) we need not worry about dear Wee E’s head. Phew!

The bad news, Elliot may have a tethered spinal cord. “A what, you ask?” Dr. pediatric neurosurgeon began looking between Elliot’s tiny bottom cheeks. I say, “What on earth are you doing?” Dr. goes on to tell me that Elliot has a small pit between his petite bottom cheeks. That, apparently, is an indication of a tethered cord. So, another MRI this week. Then, if the condition is found, surgery is warranted. ICK! That is the “horrible.” Surgery on my son’s spine?

As found on the web, here is why it is important to fix this problem ASAP

So, another update following another damn sedated MRI! Prayers are again requested for Wee E. Many thanks, friends!

So thankful that the hydro was mild and that you are not dealing with another syndrome. Hopefully, the MRI will show that Wee E's spinal cord is just fine. Praying that all testing goes well.

We'll definitely be praying! Kennedy had the same dimple and they thought the same thing about her... turns out all is ok though! :) Praying for the same for Elliot!

So happy the Hydro was mild, but sorry about the other news. That happened to a friend of mine, but it was just a tiny, tiny, tiny almost opening, I am sure luck is on your side again!
